OPC UA Gateway Overview
A built-in OPC UA client driver is provided in PcVue 16 and later. We recommend using the UA gateway only for the server facet. Refer to OPC UA driver documentation to learn more.
What is OPC UA?
OPC Unified Architecture (UA) integrates the benefits of OPC-DA, OPC-AE and OPC-HDA into a single platform whilst at the same time addressing the issues and limitations users face with the OPC Classic technology.
- Based on TCP/IP and Https technologies rather than COM / DCOM.
- Able to communicate through a firewall.
- Platform independent - can be used on non-Windows platforms, for example embedded directly on a PLC.
- Support for complex data structures (Alarm, event, historical data).
- Redundant capability and protection against data loss.
- Built in security features - encryption, authentication, and auditing.
What is the OPC UA Gateway?
The OPC UA gateway is used as a bridge between the PcVue OPC DA client and server and third party OPC UA clients and servers. It enables the use of PcVue as an OPC UA client or OPC UA server for Data Access.
This book summarizes information about the features and settings of the gateway that are required for use with PcVue. For detailed information on all other features and settings, see the documentation supplied with the gateway.
