Configuring mobile applications users

TouchVue and SnapVue users are configured in the same manner as other users of PcVue by creating Users and allocating Profiles to configure the user rights.

Many of the user rights, selectable in a profile do not affect the use of the mobile applications. Only those in the Web tab, the Window tab and those that affect variable and alarm access are relevant:

  • Web tab - Enable access. Must be selected to give the user access to the mobile apps.
  • Web tab - Project Language.
  • Browsing tab - Browse levels. Selects the variables available to the app user. See below.
  • Command tab - Command levels. Controls the variables for which the user can send commands/set-points.
  • Alarm acknowledge tab - Alarm acknowledge levels. Controls which alarms the user can acknowledge.
  • Alarm masking tab - Alarm masking levels. Controls which alarms the user can mask.
  • Window - Window access levels. Controls which mimics the user can visualize.
  • Layer - Layer access levels. Controls which layer the user can visualize (in mimics and symbols)

Why is the Browse Level important?

The browse level of a user is the primary way in which the variables available to mobile apps are selected. For example, if a user has only browse level 20, only variables and alarms with browse level 20 will be visible when they are logged on.

By default, when variables are created, they have only browse level 0 set. To make configuring your application easier it is suggested you choose one or several other browse levels for variables accessible by the mobile apps.

Other ways in which you can use the browse level is to allocate a different browse level to each Profile. This would then enable different users to have access to different groups of variables or alarms.
