Summary:

This article explains how to check the CPU usage and memory consumption of PcVue threads.


Details:

Problems may arise from over-consumption of CPU or memory on a system that is running PcVue. This can arise either from the system software, from the application or from other software that is running on the system.

For instance, you may be using buffers in your application without releasing them. That can lead to abnormal termination of the application after a period that depends on the rate of memory consumption and the available memory on the computer.

In such conditions, you need to measure the available CPU resources and memory on your computer.

Solution

For that purpose you can use a Windows tool called Performance Monitor. You can monitor the data about PcVue’s threads directly as traces or by logging the values for analysis. Both of these methods are described in the remainder of this Help book.

Distortion of results

Note

This kind of performance monitoring uses resources on the computer that it is monitoring.

You may notice a slowing down of applications on the station you are monitoring, especially as dialogs are opened. That overhead distorts the results of overall analysis. However when you monitor the threads of the PcVue application, those effects should be eliminated. To monitor performance over a long period, you should increase the sampling interval.
