Architecture or functional scope Validated deliverable

Objective

The goal of this service is to study and write the specifications of your SCADA system — or a specific feature you need to implement — ensuring a solid, shared foundation for the entire project team before development starts.

Scope of the specifications document

The document’s scope is flexible. Based on our experience, we distinguish two types of specification studies:

Type 1
System architecture
The specifications document focuses exclusively on the architecture of the SCADA system — hardware topology, communication layers, redundancy, network design, and infrastructure choices.

Type 2
Functional specifications
The specifications document covers all aspects of the SCADA system in full — from architecture through to mimic navigation, graphics behaviour, alarms, data logging, and user management.

Service phases

The service is structured around three phases, from kick-off through to formal validation.

1-Kick-off meeting
All stakeholders meet to launch the project. The scope of the service is agreed, and initial discussion of the system’s requirements begins. This is the starting point for aligning expectations across all parties.

2-Study & authoring
One or more working sessions are held to define the requirements clearly. We then follow the classic authoring cycle:

Authoring cycle
Write specifications document → Stakeholder review & comments → Review meeting → Rework if needed
The cycle repeats until all comments have been addressed and all parties are aligned.

3-Conclusion & validation
Once all comments have been processed, the specifications document is formally validated by the contractor. A closing meeting is held to sign off the service contract and hand over the final deliverable.

Deliverable

Validated specifications document
A complete, reviewed, and formally validated specifications document — covering the agreed scope — signed off by all stakeholders at the conclusion of the service.

Client benefits
  1. Safe and structured foundation for the project design
  2. No unpleasant surprises during the commissioning phase
  3. Peace of mind and reliable, predictable project performance
Service scope & limitations

This service covers specification writing only. The following are excluded:

  1. Prototype project development
  2. Graphical library creation
  3. Development of custom features, integrations, or scripts
