Applies to:

PcVue versions 10.0, 11.0, and 11.1.
The basic content of this article may also be applicable to other versions of PcVue although the detail may vary.

Summary:

This article explains how to migrate HDS databases, created in PcVue version 9.0, to PcVue versions 10.0, 11.0 or 11.1.

Details:

As from PcVue version 10.0, the HDS Database tables structures changed with more characters allowed in some of the columns.

Updating tables structure and data is necessary and will start automatically the first time you launch a project created with PcVue version 9.0, with version 10.0, if you have HDS databases smaller than 10 GB.

Because table structure changes and re-indexation can take a long time, the migration of HDS databases is not done automatically at startup if they are larger than 10 GB. In this case, the HDS will refuse to start, and you will need to use T-SQL migration scripts manually before using PcVue 10.0. The T-SQL scripts are supplied as part of the PcVue installation.

Further information and the necessary SQL scripts can be found in the download attachments below.

Note: It is strongly recommended that you backup your database before migrating it.

Feedback:

On a customer site, using the following PC specification, the timing was as follows.
Windows Server 2008 with 16Go of Ram, Quad Core Duo and SQL Server Enterprise.

  Table Size  Time To Migrate
 LogTable   8.9 Gb   8 Min
 TrendTable1   6.7 Gb   10 Min
 TrendTable2   110 Gb   3 h 30
 TrendTable3   140 Gb   7 h 30

This is only an example, but take it into account if you have to make a migration. It may take a long time!
