What’s new in 17.0
Version 17 is a major release focused on security, improved robustness, and reduced system exposure. It brings stronger protection, faster workflows, and improved OT/IT integration.
featured Security push
Version 17 introduces a significant hardening of the platform.
Key improvements:
- Stronger protection for data in transit across client/server and data acquisition drivers.
- New concept of protected project for securing data at rest.
- Enhanced integration with AD-DS, AD-CS, and third-party PKI.
- Better use of OS-level security features (ACL, DEP, SEHOP, certificate stores).
- Hardened user account management.
- Minimized ACL requirements.
- Full control over security alterations via dedicated settings.
- Simplified deployment control through the new Host Deployment Console and svcmd CLI.
- More components disabled by default (DDE, 3D mimics, VBA).
- Better fit with endpoint protection solutions.
- All new projects use secure-by-default settings.
featured Scheduling animation
A new built-in animation designed for runtime operators in WebVue:
- Modern interface and user experience.
- Configurable colors for time intervals.
- Automatically adapts the displayed schedule based on the calling mimic thanks to branches.
- Supports CRON timetables, BACnet schedules and BACnet Calendar objects.
featured Application Architect – Partial generation
Generate or synchronize only what has changed:
- Regenerates the selected instance and its related parents/children.
- Greatly reduces generation time for partial updates or ad'hoc testing.
Configuration & Diagnostics
Application Explorer
- Centralized management of certificates and pre-shared keys.
- Color configuration for enumeration literals in associated labels, reused in animations such as Scheduling.
Application Architect
- Partial generation.
- New configuration element support: OPC UA network and server, DNP3 standby device.
Archiving
- HDS now supports Azure SQL databases.
- Data export to third-party databases.
WebVue
- New Scheduling animation.
- Grid control:
- Variable tracking mode.
- Sql-based with predefined Sql queries.
HMI
- Alarm & Log viewers increased to 20 columns (previously 8).
- Improved UI for bilingual text configuration.
- Form controls can use Sql query results.
- Simulock animation: Enhanced mimic-level variable inspection with strict permission management.
- Smart symbol tooltips.
Smart Bot
Jobs are new parameterized workflows designed to automate recurrent tasks. They are a new type of action you define with the Application Explorer (along with events, cyclics…). Behind the scene, a job is an instance of a system bot that runs in the background and performs its duty if conditions are met.
Enhancements:
- New operation: Display screen – Full SnapVue Messaging UI control.
- Better handling of planned event exceptions.
- Improved Scheduler UI.
- Enhanced Find event operation.
Installation & Deployment
- New default installation directories.
- Support for Microsoft® Windows Server 2025.
- Support for Microsoft® SQL Server 2025.
Performance
- Improved BACnet monitoring.
Add-ons & Tools
- OPC UA Gateway 1.7.0 (updated)
Features in preview
Notification Publisher (preview for testing) – A module designed to support the Push Notification technology. This feature is in Preview for testing. You must run the installation package in mode Custom to install it. Please contact us if interested.
Migration
Existing projects designed with an earlier version require explicit migration using the new ProjectUtility CLI tool.
A project that is not migrated with the procedure described in the product help will fail to start with version 17.
After migration, projects can be protected, hardened, and deployed under the new security model.
If you are using VBA scripts, VBA scripting must be enabled after installation using the svcmd CLI (disabled by default).
If you are using 3D mimics based on Direct3D, run a custom installation and select the corresponding feature (no longer installed by default).
